Application

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to prepare for, conduct and document the outcomes of site inspections that inform the costing, manufacture and installation of manufactured textile products. This includes providing general product information, assessing site features and the taking of detailed measurements. Manufactured textile products may include vehicle coverings, shade sails, awnings, marine canopies or blinds.

This unit applies individuals who work in accordance with established procedures, using discretion, judgement and problem solving to identify and resolve potential installation issues.

No licensing or certification requirements exist at the time of publication. Relevant legislation, industry standards and codes of practice within Australia must be applied.

1. Prepare for site inspection

1.1 Review work information and identify job requirements

1.2 Arrange site access and permissions with client in accordance with workplace procedures

1.3 Identify and follow site work health and safety requirements

1.4 Select and prepare tools and equipment for site inspection based on job requirements

2. Obtain detailed information from client

2.1 Provide clear information to client about the inspection process and information needed

2.2 Use questioning techniques to identify client requirements

2.3 Present product information and explain options that respond to client needs

2.4 Document client requirements in accordance with workplace procedures

3. Inspect site

3.1 Confirm that work area allows for safe and efficient inspection and make adjustments based on inspection needs

3.2 Select equipment to support inspection tasks and use in accordance with work health and safety procedures

3.3 Follow workplace procedures to minimise risk to self and others when working at heights

3.4 Identify safe anchor points for products or other relevant architectural or structural equipment

3.5 Take accurate site measurements and note special features likely to affect product installation or performance

3.6 Use appropriate calculations to obtain required information

4. Document requirements and finalise site visit

4.1 Review findings from site inspection and determine implications for product manufacture and installation

4.2 Document site details to include all required information to support the manufacture and installation process

4.3 Return site to original condition and agree next stage in the process with client

Foundation Skills

Performance Evidence

There must be evidence the candidate has completed the tasks outlined in the elements and performance criteria of this unit, and demonstrated the ability to:

Assessment Conditions

Skills must have been demonstrated in the workplace or in a simulated environment that reflects workplace conditions and contingencies. The following conditions must be met for this unit:

  • use of suitable facilities, equipment and resources, including:

  • measuring devices and other inspection equipment
  • product information
  • workplace procedures.

Assessors must satisfy the NVR/AQTF mandatory competency requirements for assessors.
